Celebrating 30 years with special guests from Namibia: Collective Singers!

Namibia Collective Singers

If you’ve been watching our social media over the last few months, you may have noticed an uptick in sentimental videos. To celebrate our 30th season, we reached out to members past and present to ask them how being part of Korora has changed them for the better, and about some of their personal highlights from their time with the choir. While the responses varied, a common thread ran through many of these stories: the tours. Travelling the world, bringing our music to new communities, and making connections with people from all over–there’s nothing that can compare. No need to speak the same language, because the language of music is universal.

Touring is definitely one of the best parts of being in a choir like ours. But, what about the community that shares us so enthusiastically with the rest of the world? You, Edmontonians (and by extension, Canadians!), regularly come to our concerts, support our fundraising efforts, and share Korora with your friends and family. So this month, rather than hitting the road on a tour (though, that will come later this summer!), we’re bringing the tour to you.

In celebration of 30 years, we are proud to announce that renowned Namibian choir, Collective Singers will be travelling to Edmonton to kick off an Alberta/British Columbia tour, presented by Korora. From international stages like the World Choral Expo in Portugal, these 36 powerful vocalists are known for performances that move the spirit (and the feet!) and we can’t wait for you to experience the joy they bring to the stage.

Collective Singers arrives in Edmonton next week, and will conduct several workshops with the Korora choir family, as well as local high school students. Then, they’ll kick off the tour’s first concert at McDougall Church on April 11, joined by our own Korora, Korus, and Òran!

Following their time in Edmonton, they’ll make their way to Calgary for a concert on April 16, before heading to BC to perform in Nelson (April 17), Kelowna (April 20), Courtenay (April 22), Powell River (April 24), and Vancouver (April 25), singing with local choirs all the way.

Tickets to our Edmonton concert can be purchased here.

We can’t wait to see you there!
